The Northwest Minzu University (NWMU) is a national university located in the city of Lanzhou. NWMU’s student body is made up of 29,000 young people from every one of China’s 56 ethnic groups including the Tibetan, Uyghur, Hui, Mongol people and come from all over China. Many of these students are the first generation within their communities to have access to tertiary education. Much of their study and research helps identify and preserve the distinctive characteristics of their rich cultural heritage. Get a map of China and you’ll find the city of Lanzhou in the geographical centre of the country along the old Silk Road. Our city is famous for Lanzhou la mian, it’s long history and it’s diverse culture.
